Here are our video blogs from our day spent at Lanta Animal Welfare on the wonderful Thai island of Koh Lanta.
As the dogs liked to show how happy they were (i.e. bark!) some of the sound fades out so here are some points we covered.
Lanta Animal Welfare is based on Koh Lanta in the south-west of Thailand. Lanta Animal Welfare’s objective is to relieve the suffering and pain of the animals on the island through sterilisation and care. To date, they have sterilised and treated over 6,000 animals. Lanta Animal Welfare receives no funding for this work, other than donations and the profits from the Time for Lime restaurant and cooking school. They urgently need your help to continue their work with animals in Thailand.
They are looking for hard-working volunteers that have a love for animals. Working at Lanta Animal Welfare is a rewarding and fulfilling experience but sadly they have been let down by far too many people who think they are there to party, with a bit of dog walking on the side. This is not a holiday experience, it is hard work and while you will meet plenty of people and they expect you to have lots of fun, their animals need to come first. If you are the kind of person who is lazy by nature or who wants to party all night and will be unable to work your 7.00am shift the next day, please do not even consider applying.
The cost to volunteer at Lanta Animal Welfare is 10,000 THB. Of this, 5,000 THB will be returned to you at the end of your stay, subject to certain criteria which will be explained to you before you make the payment. It is important to understand that all of this money is going towards the welfare of the animals in their care. The minimum period they can accept volunteers for is one month but those who can stay even longer will be particularly welcome! You will not have to pay any extra money to stay longer.
Enjoy the videos! You may have to watch them in your browser if you are reading this in your e-mail.
