How to find volunteering opportunities in Malawi
You can access these opportunities in two ways.
Your first option is to buy our Directory of Volunteering opportunities which lists these opportunities in a PDF. This gives you a document that is easy to search, and which you can use even when you’re not connected to the internet.
More importantly with the directory, you will also get a list of questions to ask to make sure you get the most out of your volunteering experience. We know how important it is to clarify expectations and to get a clear idea of what you’re signing up for before you volunteer. I know that there are opportunities we signed up for that didn’t end up being what we expected. A conversation with the hosts before we turned up would have helped us avoid a few uncomfortable situations. You can find our Directory of Volunteering opportunities abroad here.
The second option is to look for the opportunties below.
We consistently add new volunteering opportunities to each country so do check in regularly to find some great responsible volunteering opportunities abroad. We would also love your help in keeping this list up to date and useful. If you know of any other places that should be featured, or maybe you’ve visited a place and would like to share your story, please get in touch.
We really hope this information helps you volunteer abroad in a way that makes your travels feel meaningful and memorable.

Organisation: Lilongwe Wildlife Trust

Website: http://www.lilongwewildlife.org/
Want to make difference? Looking to learn new skills, immerse yourself into a different way of life or simply love wildlife? Whatever your reason for volunteering, we hope you find that our programme offers what you’re looking for.
Founded in 2007, Lilongwe Wildlife Trust works to protect Malawi’s wildlife & habitats.
We rescue and rehabilitate wildlife in distress and conduct scientific research to better inform both our welfare and conservation projects. We’re working with the highest levels of government to tackle wildlife crime through advocacy and enforcement initiatives, tens of thousands of school children are engaged through our environmental education programmes across the country and our community conservation projects are helping people to live more sustainably.
Organisation: African Bat Conservation
Location: Liwonde National Park, Malawi
Website: http://www.africanbatconservation.org/index.html
African Bat Conservation (ABC) is a non-profit conservation project based in Malawi, created in partnership with the University of Bristol, UK. Malawi has been highlighted by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) as of key importance to bat conservation in Africa, having high endemism and species diversity. However, it has been highlighted as an area of concern for bat populations due to increasing agricultural pressures on the environment, and high levels of deforestation.
We need as much help as we can get to make a difference for bats and biodiversity in Africa, we are a small team with a big task ahead. Volunteers can play a vital role in helping us to achieve our aims. In return it is our hope that volunteers will enjoy volunteering with us, meet like-minded people and develop some new skills.
