How to find volunteering opportunities in Laos
You can access these opportunities in two ways.
Your first option is to buy our Directory of Volunteering opportunities which lists these opportunities in a PDF. This gives you a document that is easy to search, and which you can use even when you’re not connected to the internet.
More importantly with the directory, you will also get a list of questions to ask to make sure you get the most out of your volunteering experience. We know how important it is to clarify expectations and to get a clear idea of what you’re signing up for before you volunteer. I know that there are opportunities we signed up for that didn’t end up being what we expected. A conversation with the hosts before we turned up would have helped us avoid a few uncomfortable situations. You can find our Directory of Volunteering opportunities abroad here.
The second option is to look for the opportunities below.
We consistently add new volunteering opportunities to each country so do check in regularly to find some great responsible volunteering opportunities abroad. We would also love your help in keeping this list up to date and useful. If you know of any other places that should be featured, or maybe you’ve visited a place and would like to share your story, please get in touch.
We really hope this information helps you volunteer abroad in a way that makes your travels feel meaningful and memorable.

“Have fun with Lao locals
and experience local organic farming techniques”
Organic Farm Vang Vieng (OFVV) was founded by Mr. Thanongsi Sorangkoun (“Mr. T.”) in 1996 with the goal of introducing organic farming methods in an area where chemicals & deforestation were ruining the land. He wanted to lead by example, showing that organic methods could be profitable as well as healthy. He also wanted to assist the local people through community projects supported by the profits from the Farm.
Today the Farm is a vibrant hub for a variety of projects that center around the production of organic mulberry trees, along with organic fruits, vegetables, poultry & goat cheese for our restaurant. Mulberry leaves are used to produce mulberry tea & tempura, while the berries are used in the production of mulberry wine & shakes.
Every single day, there are loads of things to do in our farm. feel free, listen to your heart and explore the proper Lao lifestyle without a tube, but with a lot of respect to the people, giving us a hand to preserve the diversity of our beautiful country.
These are some of the activities on the farm we were supported in the past. Volunteers enjoy helping the local Lao farmers but remember there is always time to enjoy the peace and quiet, take a hike or cool off with a dip in the stream.
