Day 1 of 14. We had been on the “road” for a few hours when we came across this view. When I say road, what I really mean is dirt track. The new motorway was literally being built in front of us as we passed by in our old Russian van. Even though we had only been in the van a few hours, it was tough going because of the bumps, the heat and the constant smell of petrol wafting up from the engine. The romantic side of me (or is that masochistic?) thinks that once the motorway is complete and anybody can hire a car and explore by themselves some of the charm of Mongolia will be lost.
I digress. Back to that view. This is why we came to Mongolia. To be on the famous Mongolian Steppes. To be surrounded by nature as far as the eye can see. We had views like this for 14 days and it was well worth the uncomfortable journeys. In the short vlog below we had just got out the van for the first time. It felt good to stretch our legs and smell the fresh air.
