The Friday Photo Project | Boracay Island
The Friday Photo Project is a new series that we will publish every, ahem, Friday. They say an image tells a thousand words. We won’t go that far but we will explain what the shot means to us and why we chose it.
Boracay Island in the Philippines is very touristic, mainly because of THAT beach. The beaches of Boracay have been voted as some of the world’s best in many travel publications which has attracted hordes of tourists. In fact the beautiful beaches are one of the main reasons why you should visit the Philippines. Now you will hear many travel bloggers carp on about tourists vs travellers and how they are travellers and not a tourist. Well let me to you this: We were proud tourists when this shot was taken.
Boracay saved us. We were staying in a group of islands further south of Boracay where we were forced to have an evening meal with two sex tourists and their “companions” (There was only one restaurant.) If that was not bad enough, we then woke up to our bed covered in termites and my hair full of rat faeces. Nice.
So we cancelled our stay and headed north to crisp white linen sheets, free wi-fi and cocktails at sunset. However we had one more adventure. The bus we were on was infested with cockroaches. They were literally climbing the walls and we had to endure them for a full 8 hours.
When we saw that beach, we breathed a sigh of relief and toasted to being tourists!
