Hello from globalhelpswap!

No that photo above of the London skyline is not photoshopped! July has been a fantastic month both for British weather and us here at globalhelpswap headquarters. We had our busiest month yet in terms of people visiting our site and signing up to be helpers or blog followers. It has been really exciting seeing globalhelpswap grow. This time last year we were still going through the ideas stage and the website was nowhere near complete. It just shows you what you can achieve if you have passion for a project and you persevere.

One of the most exciting things to have happened was I was asked to be on an expert panel about Gap-Year travel for The Guardian website. It was real fun answering the questions from travellers. We had all age groups and some fantastic questions. You can see the chat here: The Guardian Gap Year Q & A (You have to go down about half way past the tweets)

We were also interviewed by The Lazy Travellers which is one of our favourite travel blogs. You can check out the interview here: Jetsetters

As you can see we have been busy!

New Volunteering Opportunities

Volunteer builders needed in Colombia – Join this Architect in building a construction with sustainable materials. The idea is to use materials that do not pollute the environment and not having the need to exploit our resources, also i want to use the Indian techniques of my country where our ancestors built stuff without machines. We also want to create our own gardens, the project will be held in the department of Cesar in Colombia.

Volunteers wanted for a Kenyan school – Safisha Africa Welfare Foundation is a non-profit non governmental organization established in 2008 and registered in 2010 with a mandate to establish schools in order to enroll poor children from the urban slums and rural areas to access quality education through charity work.

Sustainable Living and Permaculture Internships in Costa Rica –

Nestled against the virgin rainforest of La Cangreja National Park, Rancho Mastatal Sustainable Education Center has been teaching, exploring, and promoting techniques of living harmoniously in the landscape for 12 years. Renowned for it’s natural building and delicious culinary spreads of fresh homemade food, the Ranch provides visitors an opportunity to see permaculture principles in action. Visitors will experience a rural Costa Rican community, delight in 325 acres of pristine forests and waterfalls, and participate in a working permaculture farm.

Please note: To see the above opportunities you have to be a Helper registered on our site.

New Helpers & Hosts

July newsletter by globalhelpswap

Hello to all of our new helpers and hosts! It’s great to have you on board. Our mission is to connect as many volunteers to small charities or organisations that don’t have the resources to get noticed. We know how hard it is to get on to page 1 of google! A big THANK YOU to all of you helpers that have donated to us. You can’t imagine what it means to us. So thanks for your support. To all of our helpers: Please let us know when you go out to volunteer. We would love for you to do a blog post on your experience. After all, this site is yours as much as ours.

Most of our travel this month has been in London. Travel in London I hear you cry but you live there!!?? This is true but who says that you can’t travel within your own city? We have discovered some real gems this month. From a small brewery in Hackney to the fantastic Brixton Village market (check out the old school culturally in the photo above). We will be writing more blogs on our life in London from now on as there is so much to see and do.

Talking of travel. We are off to our first TBEX (Travel Bloggers Exchange) in October in Dublin. If any other bloggers or helpers would like to hook up for a pint or 3, give us a shout.

Final Thoughts

July really gave my confidence a boost. Sometimes when you are just starting out on a new project or business your confidence kind of acts like the British weather: it’s always changing! After receiving e-mails and feedback from people, their words made me realize that running globalhelpswap is what I want to do. It’s the perfect vehicle to live the life I want to live: Location Independent, My own boss, Freedom, Travel and more importantly, helping others at the same time.

Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment -Buddha

Have a great weekend everyone!

Peace & Love,

help your way around the world

globalhelpswap helps travellers save thousands of dollars of volunteer agency fees by providing a free service for travellers & charities to connect. We rely on donations to keep the site running. Thank you for your support.
